There are currently in the vicinity of 107,000 newsgroups available on Maximum Usenet. We are able to offer access to over 100,000 groups, although some groups are considered 'dead' and do not have content or have very little content, so we try to exclude these. We are willing to take suggestions from our users regarding newsgroups they'd like to see.
Retention time is up to 1,033 days.
Download speed depends on various factors such as internet traffic, connection speed, etc. Maximum Usenet will not rate limit or throttle speeds for any user. Access is available from the US and EU servers to help ensure users may take advantage of the fastest speeds available.
Usenet uses SSL, which stands for Secure Socket Layer, to encrypt information. This technology has been used for years to make sure internet service providers did not limit connection speed. Port 563 is used when using an SSL connection with Usenet; this is not throttled by many ISPs, which allows for full-speed connections.
Yes. Downloading from a secured connection means that the information being downloaded is scrambled on both ends and reassembled using an encryption key only accessed by the two ends of the 'transaction'. SSL helps secure login and password information, as well as other private information being sent. What's more, in some cases when an ISP is traffic shaping ports used for Usenet, the user may witness an increase in speed since the SSL ports are not being traffic shaped by the ISP.

Visit the ports page for information regarding which ports to use. You may use ports 119, 443 and 8080 for Non-SSL and 563, 80, 81 for SSL. Those who are experiencing poor routing may use ports 7,000, 8,000 or 9,000.
Maximum Usenet counts every byte of information going from our server to our users' computer including files that come from binaries groups and text groups. Transfer amounts for posts our users make to groups are not counted, however.
Go to the members area and find the page that details the amount of transfer you've used for the period. Statistic sections are updated every hour for your convenience.
1,033 days for binaries groups and up to 1,265 days for text groups.
You may use a credit/debit card or a PayPal account. Membership plans renew every month until canceled by the user. In the members area you'll find a cancellation form that must be filled out when the user wishes to cancel. For those who signed up using their PayPal or WorldPay account, they'll have to sign in to their PayPal or WorldPay account and cancel the subscription there in addition to filling out the cancellation form with Maximum Usenet.
Autorecycling allows Maximum Usenet to automatically renew a user's account once they've reached their download limit for the month. Otherwise, once a user reaches his or her download limit for the month, they will no longer be able to download content from newsgroups until the next billing cycle. This will also move future billing dates. For instance, if you sign up for a 2GB/month plan on the 5th of the month and use all of the 2GB on the 27th of the same month, autorecycling will allow Maximum Usenet to automatically re-bill you for the price of the 2GB plan on that day. Future re-bill dates will be moved to the 27th of the month as well—unless you again use all of the 2GB before the re-bill date, in which case the re-bill date will be moved again.
Yes. All you need to do is login to the members area and click the appropriate link to turn on/off autorecycling. Be aware, however, that turning off autorecycling does not cancel auto renewal of your account on the next re-bill date.
It's easy. You can cancel your account using the control panel after logging into the members area. After you cancel, your account will still be active until the end of the current billing cycle. You may reactivate your account at any time. If you signed up for a free trial, be sure to cancel the account before the trial period is over. If you used PayPal or WorldPay to sign up, be sure to cancel your subscription or FuturePay Agreement as well to avoid complications.
